The Official Pictorial Souvenir
We have the honour of publishing a souvenir book to commemorate this momentous event, which drew over 80,000 visitors from all over the world and coverage in both the national and international media.
The 50th International Eucharistic Congress surpassed the expectations of all of us and brought to those who were present at it, or associated with it, a renewed sense of pride in belonging to the Church. Those of us who had the possibility of attending the Congress experienced something which went beyond our expectations. We experienced something of the life of the Church and of the renewal that is taking place in the Church through the working of God’s Spirit.
This collection of photographs, captured by official IEC photographers, tells the story of that experience in images which are, so often, more powerful than words. These images convey something of the experience of real participation in the celebrations of the Eucharist, in the silent adoration, and at the evening Eucharistic Procession. They capture the hunger for renewal of faith which led thousands of people to stand in line to take part in workshops. They remind us again of the exhibition in the main hall of the RDS, which became a showcase for so many expressions of the vitality of the Church, especially the witness of men and women religious and of lay organisations.
